Garowe, PUNTLAND – In a pivotal step toward democratic elections, the Puntland Electoral Commission (PEC) held a crucial meeting with political parties at its headquarters today. Fuad Adeer, Chairman of the Puntland Electoral Commission, presided over the gathering, which saw the participation of key figures from the electoral body and leaders of Puntland’s political parties.

Voter Registration Date Announced

A significant announcement was made during the meeting: the reopening of voter registration, set for December 16th. “We’re reopening voter registration on December 16th. This is an opportunity for every eligible citizen who hasn’t registered to do so,” Chairman Fuad Adeer declared. This initiative is a critical part of ensuring that all eligible voters in Puntland can participate in the upcoming elections, marking a significant step in the region’s democratic journey.

Furthermore, Chairman Fuad extended a special invitation to political parties absent from the meeting, underlining the commitment of the  Puntland Electoral Commission to inclusive dialogue. “I call upon all political parties not yet present to join us in these crucial discussions,” he stated. The PEC’s strategy centrally revolves around an inclusive approach, actively seeking diverse perspectives to ensure the electoral process is widely accepted and representative.

Fostering Open Communication for Election Integrity

The ongoing dialogues between the Puntland Electoral Commission and political parties are therefore instrumental in shaping a transparent and inclusive electoral process. By engaging various political entities, the PEC aims to address any concerns, solicit feedback, and enhance the overall integrity of the upcoming elections. These interactions are fundamental to upholding democratic values and ensuring the credibility of the electoral process.

Commitment to Fair and Impartial Elections

As the Puntland Electoral Commission continues its preparations for the elections, it remains dedicated to conducting a fair and impartial process. This commitment is consequently crucial in reflecting the true will of Puntland’s citizens and upholding the principles of democracy.

In summary, the Garowe meeting by the Puntland Electoral Commission with Puntland’s political parties underscores the commission’s dedication to fostering a democratic electoral environment. The PEC diligently conducts open dialogues and commits to inclusivity, ensuring the upcoming elections in Puntland are fair, transparent, and truly reflective of all citizens’ aspirations. The role of PEC in these preparations is vital in laying the groundwork for a successful democratic transition in the region.
