In a shocking incident near Walanlaweyn, the deputy district commissioner, Hashim Shareere, was fatally attacked last night by unidentified assailants late last night. The incident took place in Bulo Hashi, a village in close proximity to Wanlaweyn. Shareere was en route to Wanlaweyn from Mogadishu when his vehicle was ambushed.

While no group has yet claimed responsibility for Shareere’s killing, speculation suggests that it might be tied to the ongoing clan conflict within Wanlaweyn. In recent days, tensions have been escalating, leading to a series of violent incidents.

Local residents believe that Shareere’s assassination is linked to a longstanding feud between the Hubeer and Abgal clans. “It is believed that Shareere was targeted in retaliation for a case involving a girl from the Abgal clan who was allegedly violated by a member of his clan, the Hubeer,” said one of the locals who wished to remain anonymous.

It should be noted that this incident appears unrelated to the current dispute between the Hubeer and Galje’el clans over land ownership in Wanlaweyn. While the details remain unclear, the killing of the deputy district commissioner has undoubtedly heightened tensions in an already fragile environment.

As the authorities continue to investigate the incident, Shareere’s death serves as a chilling reminder of the fragile balance of power within the region and the potential for clan grievances to erupt into fatal violence
