In an unexpected move, the President of Puntland, H.E. Said Abdullahi Deni, has dismissed two key members of his government. As per Presidential decree no. 26, issued on 17 June 2023, the Minister of Security and the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Puntland have been removed from their posts. The ministers were accused of neglecting their duties, prompting the President to take action.

The decree explicitly names the dismissed ministers: “1. Abdisamad Mohamed Galan, the Minister of Security of Puntland, and 2. Abduweli Mire Hirsi, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Puntland”.

Details surrounding the alleged negligence leading to the dismissal have not been made available yet. This sudden development marks a significant reshuffling within the Puntland government, and the impact on the region’s security and internal affairs remains to be seen
