During a ceremony yesterday, nine SSC-Khaatumo cabinet secretaries were sworn in in Las Anod. Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali ‘Firdhiye’, the leader of SSC-Khaatumo, attended the event. The nine cabinet secretaries were nominated on 12 September to form the core of the newly established administration.

Leader Firdhiye announced the cabinet appointments to serve as secretaries in the transitional administration on 12 September. The appointments mark a crucial step in the region’s governance structure. Before taking office, each of the nominated secretaries had to secure a vote of confidence from the SSC-Khaatumo 45-member committee, ensuring their qualifications and vision aligned with the administration’s broader goals.
The cabinet secretaries will cover a diverse range of portfolios to address the multifaceted needs of the region:
- Yusuf Sulayman San’ad, Secretary of Public Affairs
- Abdirizak Yusuf Mohamed, Secretary of Planning, Development and International Relations
- Abdisahal Jama Mohamed, Secretary of the Interior, Federation, and Reconciliation
- Abdirashid Mohamud Hambuse, Secretary of Finance
- Abdisatar Sheikh Osman Omar, Secretary of Trade, Industry, Investment, and Productivity
- Dahir Abdirisaq Ahmed, Secretary of Information, Telecommunication, and Technology
- Abdihakim Jama Dalmar, Secretary of Security
- Mohamud Yusuf Hassan, Secretary of Education, Culture, and Higher Education
- Abdikadir Abdi Warsame Digale, Secretary of Public Works, Transportation, and Reconstruction
The appointment of these secretaries signals a commitment to addressing key areas such as development, security, education, and reconciliation within the SSC regions and beyond.
Weapons ban in Las Anod
In a bid to restore stability and assert control, the leadership of the SSC-Khaatumo administration recently banned carrying unauthorized weapons in Las Anod. Leader Firdhiye sternly warned against using military vehicles and weapons not belonging to the administration’s armed forces or police within the city. Moreover, Firdhiye announced forming stabilization forces for the region.
Addressing the issue, Firdhiye stated, “Any weapons in the city not carried by the security forces are illegal weapons. We will take action against those who carry them. Starting today [21 September], war vehicles with guns moving around the city are not permitted in the city. They will go to the frontline to operate there.”
The directive reflected the SSC-Khaatumo administration’s commitment to establishing law and order in Las Anod and ensuring that security responsibilities belong exclusively to authorized personnel. The move comes as the administration works to rebuild institutions and assert control over the region following years of occupation by Somaliland.
