SSC-Khaatumo leader Abduqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali ‘Firdhiye’, his secretaries, and the Special Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs visited the headquarters of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) in Mogadishu yesterday. Mr Firdhiye met with the SoDMA leadership. He expressed his gratitude for the Agency’s commendable work in providing humanitarian assistance to the displaced civilians during the war in Las Anod and facilitating the transportation of the wounded to medical care facilities.

The SSC-Khaatumo leader then highlighted the pressing needs of the SSC-Khaatumo region and requested SoDMA to continue their vital relief activities. He emphasized the significance of ongoing humanitarian assistance to address the challenges the affected population faces.

Furthermore, Mr Firdhiye appealed to the international community, urging them to support his administration in reconstructing essential infrastructure destroyed during the conflict. He emphasized the need to rebuild hospitals, schools, water facilities, and electricity infrastructure, which were severely damaged or completely destroyed.

“For eight months, Las Anod witnessed a devastating war that caused immense destruction, loss of life, and widespread suffering. The consequences of this conflict include displacement, lack of healthcare, food shortages, and overall disruption of daily life. The displaced people need a comprehensive program for their return and resettlement. It is necessary to rebuild vital infrastructure, including healthcare centres, educational facilities, water supply systems, and electricity networks,” further stated Mr Firdhiye.

Historical visit

The meeting took place on the second day of Mr Firdhiye and his delegation’s historical visit to Mogadishu. During this landmark tour, the SSC-Khaatumo leader also met with the Prime Minister and the President of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS). However, the contents and outcomes of these talks have not been disclosed.

The discussions between the SSC-Khaatumo leader and SoDMA leadership signify the importance of collaboration and support in addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of the affected population in the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn (Cayn) regions. The appeal to the international community highlights the need for sustained assistance in rebuilding critical infrastructure and facilitating the recovery and stability of the affected areas.
