Former President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has issued a warning to the Federal Parliament of Somalia in response to the agreement reached by the National Consultative Council. On his Facebook and X (Twitter) accounts, he cautioned against moving away from the parliamentary form of governance and suspending the office of the Prime Minister, emphasising that such a decision would go beyond the powers of government institutions and directly impact the nation’s fate.

Former President Farmaajo urged the Federal Parliament to exercise caution when approving provisions that could potentially affect the existence of the government without following the proper processes. He emphasised that hasty decisions in this regard have the potential to breed social distrust and political chaos.
In addition, he called for the inclusion of the views of the Puntland State Government, which was absent from the National Consultative Council. According to Farmaajo, Puntland’s representation is crucial for building a unified government in Somalia.
The former President highlighted the importance of closely monitoring activities related to changing the form of government, the parliamentary process, the implementation of one-person, one-vote elections, and the multi-party system. He stressed that any amendments to these provisions without following the appropriate procedures could lead the country into instability and uncertainty.
