The blast, which shattered the early evening calm near the heavily guarded Villa Somalia checkpoint, has once again laid bare the deadly reach of the Al-Shabab insurgency and the urgent challenges facing the Somali government and its security forces as they struggle to protect the lives and livelihoods of the city’s residents.
The attack, which targeted Geeldoox Restaurant located behind the Hoyoyinka Building, just a stone’s throw from the seat of government power, has sent shockwaves through the already traumatized city.
