Ali Hamud Jibril, Somaliland’s Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives, is against further conflict with the SSC regions. Mr Jibril made a fervent plea during his speech in Borama. He unequivocally expressed his opposition to any form of conflict with the residents of Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn (Cayn), commonly known as SSC.

Borama, Awdal region, SOMALIA. By Yahya:

“I do not endorse the idea of engaging in war against the people of Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn. Our injured soldiers are receiving care in Borama, Hargeisa, Burao [Bur’o], and Aynaba [Ainabo], while those who faced defeat are now in Oog. I believe our people will eventually reunite, and I firmly maintain that war is not the solution,” he asserted during his address in Borama.

Furthermore, Mr Jibril called upon the people of Borama to contribute to the fund dedicated to the support and well-being of the wounded soldiers.

The Deputy Speaker’s comments increase the pressure on Somaliland President Muse Bihi, who has been trying to revive the conflict by fuelling inter-clan hatred. The President admitted the Somaliland army’s losses in Gooja’adde but vowed revenge. “People should not be discouraged by the fighting even though our army suffered losses. We should not perceive [the defeat] negatively because the army is still intact, and we will take our revenge against the alliance that perpetrated the attack.”

Unionism on the rise

The Deputy Speaker delivered his remarks in Borama, the capital city of the Awdal region, which is currently an administrative region of the self-proclaimed Somaliland. However, over the weekend, the region’s representatives announced it is breaking away from Somaliland and supporting Somalia’s unity. In a convention in Canada, the community leaders rejected the secessionist agenda. Moreover, they called on the Awdal soldiers to return to their home region and “liberate it as soon as possible.”

Moreover, the leaders of the so-called Ga’an Libaah movement in the Togdheer region also made unionist calls, further complicating the situation for the separatist Somaliland.
