In a bid to restore stability and assert control, the leadership of the SSC-Khaatumo administration bans carrying unauthorized weapons in Las Anod. The leader of the recently established administration, Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali ‘Firdhiye’, sternly warned against using military vehicles and weapons not belonging to the administration’s armed forces or police within the city. Moreover, Firdhiye announced forming stabilization forces for the region.

Las Anod, Sool region, SSC, SOMALIA. By Jama:

Addressing the issue, Firdhiye stated, “Any weapons in the city not carried by the security forces are illegal weapons. We will take action against those who carry them. Starting today [Thursday], war vehicles with guns moving around the city are not permitted in the city. They should go to the frontline to operate there.”

This directive reflects the SSC-Khaatumo administration’s commitment to establishing law and order in Las Anod and ensuring that security responsibilities belong exclusively to authorized personnel. The move comes as the administration works to rebuild institutions and assert control over the region following years of occupation by Somaliland.

High-level delegation from Mogadishu

On 14 and 15 September, a high-level delegation comprising members from the Federal Parliament and the Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) visited Las Anod to hold talks with SSC-Khaatumo. The visit held substantial importance as it followed a prolonged conflict culminating in Gooja’adde on 25 August. It marked a potential turning point for the region’s stability and progress.

Upon the delegation’s arrival in Las Anod, the SSC-Khaatumo administration and residents warmly welcomed the prominent politicians. SSC-Khaatumo expressed the hopes and expectations tied to the visit and urged the delegation to safeguard Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. The administration emphasized SSC’s sacrifices for the nation’s territorial integrity.

The visit was not only a crucial step in the path to self-rule for the people of SSC-Khaatumo. It also underscored an improved unity of Somalia amidst ongoing secessionist efforts by Somaliland. Furthermore, it was a testament to the commitment of (at least) a section of federal authorities to work together with the new regional administration for the betterment of the nation and its people.
