Las Anod, Sool region, SSC, SOMALIA. By Dalmar:
The visit holds immense importance as it comes in the aftermath of a prolonged conflict that culminated in Gooja’adde on 25 August. It marks a potential turning point for the region’s stability and progress.
Upon their arrival in Las Anod, the SSC-Khaatumo administration and the residents warmly welcomed the high-level politicians. SSC-Khaatumo expressed the hopes and expectations tied to the visit and urged the delegation to safeguard Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. The administration emphasized SSC’s sacrifices for the nation’s territorial integrity.
What did the delegation say?
During their stay, the delegation engaged in a series of discussions and meetings. These included sessions with the SSC-Khaatumo administration leader, the Council of Secretaries, and cultural leadership. The meetings covered various topics, including security, politics, and humanitarian affairs.
In a press release issued this morning, the delegation highlighted several key points.
- It acknowledged and appreciated the warm reception and hospitality of the SSC-Khaatumo administration, the cultural leadership, and the residents of Las Anod.
- It noted the city’s urgent needs, such as the construction of public institutions, social service centres, humanitarian aid facilities, and the resettlement of displaced people. The delegation agreed to communicate these observations to the Federal Government of Somalia and the international community.
- It commended SSC-Khaatumo’s efforts to maintain control over its security forces and refrain from expanding beyond its territorial boundaries.
- It issued a peace declaration to the Somaliland administration, urging them to avoid conflicts that result in loss of life, injuries, displacement, and property damage among Somali communities. The delegation also called upon the FGS and the international community to play a pivotal role in preventing further conflicts among neighbouring Somali regions.
- It praised the prevailing peace and the presence of a functional government system. It highlighted the absence of terrorism or security disruptions in the city. It encouraged aid agencies and those interested in public service in SSC-Khaatumo to work collaboratively. It affirmed the SSC-Khaatumo administration’s responsibility for upholding peace and stability in the region.
Somalia more united
Moreover, the delegation urged the SSC-Khaatumo government and the Somali community of the SSC to work together for peace, reconciliation, and strengthening security and development in the region.
This high-level delegation’s visit is not only a crucial step in the path to self-rule for the people of SSC-Khaatumo. It also underscores an improved unity of Somalia amidst ongoing secessionist efforts by Somaliland. Furthermore, it is a testament to the commitment of (at least) a section of federal authorities to work together with the new regional administration for the betterment of the nation and its people.
