In a significant ruling, the Supreme Military Court of Somalia sentenced 2 al-Shabaab militants to death. Anas Abduqadir Ali Mohamud, aka Salman, and Adan Mursal Mohamed Maalin, aka Idow, were convicted of committing murders in the city of Galkayo, the capital of the Mudug region.

Mogadishu, SOMALIA. By Dalmar:

A lower court initially sentenced the two men to death on 22 May, following their apprehension in Galkayo. The Chief of the Supreme Military Court, General Liban Ali Yarow, announced the final verdict, confirming the death penalty for both convicts.

The case against Salman and Idow revolved around their involvement in multiple killings and the placing of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Galkayo. Their confessions played a crucial role in the court’s decision, shedding light on the extent of their involvement in the acts of terrorism.

ISIS terrorists sentenced in Puntland

A week ago, Puntland Military Court sentenced three terrorists for belonging to the IS-Somalia (IS-S) terrorist group. IS-S is the Somali branch of the Syria and Iraq-based terrorist organisation known as IS or ISIS. The detainees heard their verdicts in the coastal city of Bosaso in Northern Somalia.

Abdullahi Shire Mahamud was guilty of providing bail for IS-S members on multiple occasions. His sentence was five years in prison. Earlier this month, Puntland Intelligence Security Agency (PISA) officers apprehended Shire, a clan elder the group used to ferry its members into the region. Shire waited at the Bosaso Airport to facilitate the transfer of Salman Farah Mohamed to the IS-S territories.

Salman Farah Mohamed was recently arrested at Bosaso Airport. The court ruled that he was a member of IS-S and sentenced him to a 15-year prison term. The detainee confessed to his association with the terrorist outfit. He intended to travel to the mountainous part of northern Puntland, where the extremist group has a presence.

Finally, the court sentenced Mohamed Ahmed Mohamud to 10 years for his involvement with the terrorist group.
