JOWHAR, HIRSHABELLE — In a significant political reshuffle, Ali Jeyte Osman, the Governor of Hiran, was relieved of his duties as per a decree issued by the office of the President of HirShabelle. The change comes on the brink of the second phase of an operation aimed at liberating al-Shabaab controlled territories.
The removal decree, which was dated 16 June 2023 and referenced DHSH/XM/00133/23, bore the signature of HirShabelle President, Ali Gudlawe. The decree, published late last night, announced Abdullahi Ahmed Moalim (Surufow) as the new Governor of Hiran.
Osman, who was a key figure in the campaign to eradicate al-Shabaab from the Xawaadle clan’s territory, has been abruptly removed from his role ahead of a major operation. This change in leadership could have far-reaching implications on the strategy and execution of the upcoming phase of the campaign.
The unexpected dismissal raises questions about the strategic direction and future course of HirShabelle’s anti-al-Shabaab operations. Analysts are now keenly observing how this major reshuffle might affect the ongoing efforts to reclaim al-Shabaab controlled areas. As the new Governor takes the reins amidst this critical juncture, only time will tell if this leadership change proves beneficial for HirShabelle’s campaign
