The Prime Minister (PM) of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, announced yesterday the forming of the Council for Modernisation and Transformation of Somalia. The Council will aim to drive sustainable development and lay the foundation for a stable, efficient, and economically self-sufficient Somalia.

Somalia’s modernisation and transformation process seeks to foster an integrated effort involving government ministries, federal member states, the international community, non-governmental organisations, businesspeople, and civil society. The objective is to improve administration, promote economic development, enhance social welfare, and build essential economic infrastructure.
The Council for Modernisation and Transformation of Somalia comprises the following members:
- Bihi Iman Ige, Minister of Finance
- Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir, Minister of Education, Heritage, and Higher Education
- Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi, Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation
- Mahmoud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah ‘Beene Beene’, Minister of Planning
- Abdirisaq Omar Mohamed, Minister of Petroleum and Mines
- Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali ‘Doodishe’, Minister of Internal Security
- Ahmed Madobe Nunow, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation
- Fardowsa Osman Igaal, Minister of Transport and Aviation
- Mohamed Elmi Ibrahim, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs
- Jama Takhal Abbas, Minister of Water and Energy
- Ahmed Hassan Adan, Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy
- Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, Minister of Trade and Industry
- Khadija Mohamed Almakhsoumi, Minister of Environment and Climate Change
The Secretariat
The Prime Minister will chair the Council, leading its efforts to drive modernisation and transformation. The Council will also have a Secretariat consisting of the following members:
- Mohamed Abukar Zubeir, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office
- Mohamed Abdirahman Mohamed ‘Boolbool’, Director of the Council of Ministers of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM)
- Kamaludin Dahir Hassan, Adviser on Security Affairs of the Prime Minister
- Abdirisaq Ali Ibrahim, Consultant for Program Development and Coordination at the OPM
- Ahmed Omar Mohamed, Adviser for OPM Cabinet Affairs
- Hassan Abdullahi Diriye, Consultant for the Development and Improvement of Government Institutions Management at the OPM
