Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala: An Active Player in Somali Politics

Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala, a seasoned Somali journalist and politician, currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism. He takes an active role as a government spokesperson, frequently appearing in media to explain and defend policies and actions.

Born in Mogadishu in 1969, Al-Adala studied journalism at the Somali National University. He honed his skills by reporting for various Somali newspapers and radio stations before diving into the political arena.

2012 saw Al-Adala elected to the Federal Parliament of Somalia. He actively participated in the information committee, vocal in his critiques of the then-president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo appointed Al-Adala as Deputy Minister of Information in 2017. In this position, he actively communicates government policies and actions to the media, becoming a prominent voice advocating for their merits. He takes an equally active stance against the opposition, accusing them of destabilizing efforts.

Controversy surrounds Al-Adala. Some label him a government propagandist, using his position to muffle dissenting voices. Others see him as a staunch advocate for the Somali people and their nation’s progress.

2023 brought him the additional responsibility of Acting Minister of Information when the previous minister resigned. He is expected to remain a key figure in communicating government efforts and policies to the Somali public.
